       [ Humorous ] [ Cynical + Harsh ]  [ Mischievous ] [ Headstrong + Spirited ]  [ Actress ] [ Intellectual + Observant ]  [ Naturalistic ] [ Adventurous ] [ Secretive + Hidden Personality ]

[ Humorous ]

"Yeah right, when I sprout wings and fly."

Val can sometimes have a sort of “whoopty-doo”, carefree outlook on life , and this enables her to laugh at a lot of things. Although when she is truly enjoying herself, she seems more cheerful; but usually she is rather sarcastic and seems more like an almost pessimistic character.

[ Cynical + Harsh ]

"Sheesh, calm down I was only joking.."

Like said before, at certain times Val can seem like a downer because of her skepticism on things. Her sharp-tongued, sarcastic comments may hurt more sensitive souls without meaning to; but she'll apologize if you actually mean something to her.

[ Mischievous ]

"Okay, sure, I'll do that...If you can catch me first!"

On the rare occasion Val does reveal a bit more of herself and makes a new friend, she can be somewhat playful and full of mischief. This is also when her good sense of humor shows.

[ Headstrong + Spirited ]

"You wanna bet, wise ass?"

Due to long years of fending for herself, Val often takes pride in her own opinions and usually won’t let anyone push her around. If you provoke her, don’t be surprised if you get a rather nasty response; that is if she’s in an ill mood.

[ Actress ]

"I'm terribly sorry sir, but I'm afraid I just don't have any idea about what you're saying!"

Although she isn’t bad at heart, Val is awfully good at telling little white lies, or big ones for that matter. She could fool even the sharpest of horses with her convincing act if she wanted to do so.

[ Intellectual + Observant ]

"I could see it in your eyes from the moment we first met..." *chuckle*

Maybe her ability to deceive so well sprouts from her natural cunning and intellect. Val is very keen and picks up on just about every tiny detail; she takes hints very well, and sometimes will leave you wondering intentionally if she even noticed at all.

[ Naturalistic ]

"You know...I've never seen anything so beautiful and relaxing..."

It is not always a very prominent trait of hers, but Val is very fond of nature, and she actually has a deep respect for it; even a fear of it sometimes, due to the blazing fire that charred the Southern Isle.

[ Adventurous ]

"Well would you rather just sit around here and do nothing? C'mon!"

Given her love of nature and all the beauty in it,  Val never passes up the chance to explore. She likes to be aware of all that is around her, and actually ends up getting tired of being in the same place for too long; because of this, she is usually constantly on the move.

[ Secretive + Hidden Personality ]

"I'd actually rather not say..."

From all the trauma she has gone through in her early years, Val is actually wary to trust others; she had only known two closely in her life before, and they were gone forever for all that she knew. There is a gentler, sweeter side that she almost never shows; you had better be prepared to become her lifelong friend or more to get a glimpse of it.

- History -

    BIRTH AND FOALHOOD

Valencia's early life started with tragedy—her mother, Saria, was a wandering mare who was unfortunate enough to be abducted into the bachelor herd as a broodmare. The mare was horrified of what was to become of her life at the young age of twenty-two, but an unlikely stallion came to her one night and took her aside, assuring her that he wasn't like the others. Saria noticed that he seemed to keep constant watch over her, and on certain nights, they would escape to solitude. They began to learn more and more about each other, and soon, a deep romance blossomed. This relationship she had with the stallion made the mare’s life in the Bachelor Herd a little less degrading. A few months passed when one day, Saria realized she was pregnant, feeling little kicks in her belly. Feelings of both joy and fear filled the young mare’s heart, and in her excitement, she rushed to her mate, revealing that she was with foal. Much to her surprise, when she told her “lover” this, suggesting that they run away to raise the foal somewhere where it would not be in the brutal hold of the heartless bachelors, he revealed his true intentions and lashed out at her. In a single moment, all the happiness she had remaining in her life drained out of the mare, much like the blood from the wounds the father of her children inflicted upon her—the stallion that said he loved her and cared for her, who swore he would always treat her how a mare should be treated, unlike the rest of the brutes he resided with. As he laughed in her face at the mare’s horror and astonishment, he swept up his cloak of kind deceit and showed that he clearly was more insidious than she ever could ever have imagined; corrupted and unfeeling, he only wanted the sick pleasure of seeing just how far he could take this mare into his fool’s paradise.

It seemed like eons before the mare was finally able to get to a secluded place, and although she was injured and extremely shaken, she managed to survive birthing not one, but two foals. Saria was blessed with beautiful twin fillies, but no father to help raise them. She took it upon herself to ensure that they would survive, even if she wouldn’t. Saria took Val and her sister as far as she could from the Bachelor Herd, but she knew that as long as they were on the Eastern Isle, they would never be safe.

The day her beloved daughters grew strong enough to cross the landbridge, the three traveled to the Southern Isle, where they would never have to fear the clutches of the Bachelor stallions. Their mother swore to never unlock the horrors of their father in her heart again; Saria knew that wherever her daughters’ lives would take them, the last place she wanted it to be was back with him.

    ADOLESCENCE

Val and her sister grew up oblivious to the troubles of their small world; their mother never told them of their sinister father and lied about any scars she received from him, wanting nothing but to protect her beautiful girls from the horrors of the Eastern Isle and avoid reliving the pain of being cast aside by their father. Though they lived as loners, the twins would occasionally meet and play with other foals from the nearby Exile Herd while their mother kept a watchful eye just a heartbeat away. Saria’s heart began to grow warm again seeing the two fillies snuggle close when they slept—they were her pride and joy, the only thing her soul lived for on the earth for each day; she loved them.

However, one night, another tragedy was to befall her mother. It was raining hard and the three were searching for a sheltered place. Disaster struck. The unfortunate trio crossed paths with a pack of grass beasts, and the animals surrounded them, thrashing violently with fangs and claws bared. In the dark and stormy night, Val was able to vanish under the canines’ noses  with only a few small cuts and bruises, and found shelter in a rocky outcrop nearby. In the morning when she awoke, the filly desperately searched and called for her mother and sister, but the two were nowhere to be found.

It was not without great difficulty, but eventually Val was able to move on, though she always kept hope for finding her family in the back of her mind. She would be grown and coming of age soon.

    YOUNG ADULTHOOD

It had been a few years since Val was separated from her mother and sister when a fierce blaze sparked over most of the Southern Isle. Everywhere she looked, flames the temperature of the burning sun and taller than the trees licked at her limbs. Val galloped and galloped until she could no more, feeling her lungs burn almost as hot as the fire’s heat on her body. The young mare believed she was dead when she finally collapsed onto the dirt, passing out.

When her eyelids fluttered back to consciousness, she saw that the flames were dying out only yards behind her and there were no major burns on her body; what she had acquired would, with luck, not leave any scars.

Thoughts and memories of her mother and sister constantly find their way into her mind, and Val often wonders if they are still alive somewhere, and hopes they escaped the blaze with their lives...
